Nolte Receives Director's Recycling Award

Nolte Associates, Inc. was won a Director's Recycling Award from the City of San Diego Environmental Services Department. Recognized by the City of San Diego for their innovative programs, Nolte has successfully implemented a variety of waste reduction, reuse, recycling and recycled product procurement programs.

"This is the fifth year in a row that Nolte has been honored by the City of San Diego for our demonstrated commitment to sustainable business practices," said Joe Minner, senior vice president with Nolte. "Sustainability is at the core of all that we do and it's an honor to be recognized for the efforts we make to reduce and recycle materials, and to educate our staff and others about opportunities to minimize resource consumption."

Nolte is focused on delivering sustainable solutions for civil infrastructure. Their internal business practices, which include identifying a Sustainability Champion in each office, are a reflection of their attempt to balance environmental considerations, economic demands, and community need. Several highlights of their waste reduction and recycling practice include the following:

• A hybrid vehicle fleet
• Environmentally friendly office supplies and practice
• Energy efficiency measures, including automatic on/off lighting
• Paperless expense reimbursement processing and electronic pay statements
• Office recycling program for paper, aluminum, glass, plastic, coffee grounds, toner, printer/ink cartridges, batteries, and plastic bags
• An active internal and external education program
• Sustainability reviews for many of their clients' projects

"Your efforts help the City of San Diego achieve its waste reduction and recycling goals, and make you a leader in the community for others to follow," said Stephen Grealy, deputy environmental services director.

Awards were given to businesses and community organizations for their waste reduction and environmental protection programs. Award winners are selected for programs that contribute to the City’s effort to divert waste from landfills and to conserve natural resources.
