Nolte Wins ACEC Award for Wastewater Work

The City of Manteca's Wastewater Quality Control Facility (WQCF) Phase 3 Expansion – Schedule D project has been awarded a 2010 Merit Award for Engineering Excellence by the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) California.

As designed by Nolte, the upgraded tertiary wastewater treatment facility represents one of the earliest and largest installations of a cloth disk filter (CDF) in California. The project required the development of testing protocol for one of the first ultraviolet light (UV) disinfection processes to comply with new regulatory guidelines for unrestricted wastewater reuse. Under an extremely complex schedule, the wastewater treatment system came on-line, with no disruption of existing service, a full two months ahead of the March 2008 deadline.

The City has realized several benefits as a result of the upgraded treatment facility, including being able to recycle effluent which has reduced the City’s consumption of potable water by hundreds of thousands of gallons.

The Engineering Excellence awards were presented on January 19 at the ACEC Engineering Excellence Awards Banquet in Sacramento. The award program recognizes firms who design and achieve outstanding engineering projects.
