Nolte Recognized as Clean Air Champion

Nolte Associates, Inc. was honored by Breathe California for their successful efforts to reduce global warming and air pollution. Selected as a Clean Air Champion, the honor is the highest award given to a local business for their innovation and initiative to make the Sacramento Region a better place to live and breathe.

“Nolte’s practice and projects are built on the foundation of sustainability,” said John Dallen, senior vice president and regional managing director with Nolte. “Sustainability is at the core of all that we do and it’s an honor to be recognized for our commitment to improving the communities in which we live and work.”

Nolte is focused on delivering sustainable solutions for civil infrastructure. Their internal business practices are focused on protecting natural resources, providing a healthy work environment, preserving ecological health and reducing energy consumption. Several highlights of their actions to improve air quality include the following:

•    Planting 30 trees throughout Sacramento County

•    Enabling employees to calculate their carbon footprint and providing ideas to reduce one’s carbon footprint

•    Volunteering time to help clean-up a section of the American River Parkway

•    A hybrid vehicle fleet and lockers and showers for employees who walk or bicycle to work

•    Environmentally friendly office equipment, supplies and practices

•    Energy efficiency measures, including arranging their workspace to take advantage of natural lighting

•    Office recycling program, which includes cardboard, glass, plastic, aluminum, mixed paper, newspaper and e-waste

•    Sustainability reviews for many of their clients’ projects

•    A proprietary Sustainable Design Guide, which provides staff a working knowledge of sustainable design principles and how they may be applied to their clients’ projects

•    Study groups and financial support to encourage employee accreditation in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) – 11% of Nolte’s staff are LEED Accredited Professionals

The award is given to businesses, governmental agencies, citizen groups/individuals and a young person/group for their accomplishments in working to improve the air in the Sacramento Region. Award winners are selected for the specific efforts that contribute to helping clean our air.

This year marks the 33rd year that Breathe California of Sacramento-Emigrant Trails and its community sponsors recognize Clean Air Champions for their outstanding efforts to clean our air.
