Nolte Sells Managing Interest to Vertical V
The boards of directors of Vertical V, Inc. (Vertical V) and Nolte Associates, Inc. (Nolte) have reached agreement on the terms of a cash offer by Vertical V to acquire a managing interest in Nolte.
Dickerson Wright, chairman and chief executive officer at Vertical V, who will become chairman and CEO of Nolte, had the following to say about the Nolte transaction, "Acquiring a well-known, highly respected civil engineering firm with a long history of serving public clients in the infrastructure, transportation, and water/waste water markets has been a very high priority for our company. Nolte will not only provide us with a platform for our infrastructure engineering vertical, but it will also introduce us to opportunities in municipal outsourcing as well as support our existing construction quality assurance business line."
Vertical V offers engineering and consulting services from five vertically integrated organizations: construction quality assurance; infrastructure engineering and support services; municipal consulting and outsourcing; asset management consulting; and environmental health and safety consulting. Vertical V, with offices on the east and west coasts, is committed to building a national brand supported by a combination of strategic acquisitions and organic growth.
Commenting on the announcement, Ken Rudolph, president of Nolte, said: "This affords us the opportunity to thrive in the current economy and pursue new growth opportunities. It will also allow us to continue our research and development efforts in order to bring even greater value to our public and private sector clients." .
Under the new corporate structure, Wright will assume the role of chief executive officer and Rudolph will serve as president/chief operating officer of Nolte. Kuresman Named to Board of Women of Wind Energy, San Diego Chapter
Kamala Kuresman, business development manager at Nolte Associates, Inc., was recently named to the board of the San Diego Chapter of the Women of Wind Energy (WOWE). Kuresman was selected for the position because of her strong leadership skills and passion for sustainable design. Kuresman serves as Secretary for the Executive Committee.
"Kamala is a leader in sustainable business practices," said Joe Minner, Senior Vice President and Regional Managing Director with Nolte. "Her drive and motivation will benefit the association and other professionals in the wind energy field."
Kuresman manages business development efforts for Nolte's San Diego, El Centro and Palm Desert offices and is a member of Nolte's sustainable planning forum, which develops and implements sustainability initiatives for the firm. She regularly leads assessments to incorporate sustainable features on the firm's design projects, organizes quarterly trainings for office personnel, and has spoken on sustainable business practices at several City of San Diego events.
Kuresman took her seat on the board of the San Diego Chapter of WOWE in May and will serve a one-year term with the association.

Nolte Ranked Among Top Construction Management Firms
Engineering News-Record (ENR) has once again ranked Nolte Associates, Inc. (Nolte) among the top construction management firms in the U.S. In its June 14 issue, ENR listed the company #64 among the top 100 construction management firms in the country, up 10 places over the previous year's ranking.
In spite of the depressed economy, ENR's researchers found the combined fees from the Top 100 Construction Management firms were up 15.3% over the previous year, generating $16.03 billion in fees in 2009 compared to $13.90 billion in 2008. Nolte fared better than many of its industry counterparts, with 2009 construction management fees up by 57% when compared to 2008.
ENR's Top 100 Construction Management Firms list ranked contractors, construction management, design, engineer-contractor, engineer-architect-contractor and environmental firms based on their total 2009 revenues for construction management and program management services.

Nolte Associates, Inc. was won a Director's Recycling Award from the City of San Diego Environmental Services Department. "This is the fifth year in a row that Nolte has been honored by the City of San Diego for our demonstrated commitment to sustainable business practices," said Joe Minner, senior vice president with Nolte. "Sustainability is at the core of all that we do and it's an honor to be recognized for the efforts we make to reduce and recycle materials, and to educate our staff and others about opportunities to minimize resource consumption."
Nolte is focused on delivering sustainable solutions for civil infrastructure. Their internal business practices, which include identifying a Sustainability Champion in each office, are a reflection of their attempt to balance environmental considerations, economic demands, and community need. Several highlights of their waste reduction and recycling practice include the following:

30th Street 20a Transmission Undergrounding
The largest span of utility undergrounding in the history of San Diego, the 30th Street 20a Transmission Undergrounding moved 3.5 miles (20,304 feet) of overhead transmission line underground. The project, which provides a safer, more reliable energy source for the people of San Diego, received a 2009 Outstanding Civil Energy Project Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Region 9. The award recognizes projects that represent the greatest contribution to civil engineering progress and mankind.
